Career prospects

The vast majority (80-90%) of graduates of the Master’s programme in Neurosciences go on to join a PhD programme either at VU University Amsterdam or at another academic institute in the Netherlands or abroad. A PhD will prepare you for a top position at a university, a research institute such as the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience or in the corporate sector, with companies such as Solvay, Philips Duphar, Janssen Pharmaceutica and Organon.

Orientation towards a career and the labour market

The external traineeships and research projects help to prepare and familiarize students with the labour market. In addition, students get an introduction to the labour market during Business Days organized by NiBi (the Netherlands Institute for Biology). There are also seminars sponsored by trade and industry. More information on NiBi can be found on the Dutch website.

SBBA Bèta Career Event

Each year the Stichting Bèta Bedrijvencontactdag Amsterdam organizes a Career Event. Representing large compagnies, the career event offers lectures, workshops and a speed-date lunch to enable students to meet with future employers.
